Liberty United Methodist Church
Living Together as a Community of Faith

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

We would be delighted to welcome you as a new member of Liberty United Methodist Church.  We trust that God's Spirit has guided you to a place where you belong.  Should you decide to attend but not join our church, we will include you on our constituency roll, which means that we will assume responsibility for being a church family to you, even though you are not a member.

You may become a member in one of several ways:

PROFESSION OF FAITH AND BAPTISM
If you have never been baptized, the pastor will be happy to meet with you in your home or at the church office, at your convenience, to discuss the meaning of the Sacraments and making a profession of faith as a Christian.

PREPARATORY MEMBERSHIP is for children, of church members, who have been baptized but not yet made their own confession of faith in Jesus Christ.  Confirmation classes are offered to children twelve and older to help them understand the meaning of salvation so that they may make an informed decision about their own Christian faith. When parents transfer their full membership to our church, their baptized children are automatically enrolled in our church as preparatory members.  Note: Children who participate in our church, but have not been baptized, are included on the constituency roll of our church.

RESTORATION OF MEMBERSHIP & RENEWAL OF VOWS
If you have been out of church or you are no longer a member of a church, your baptism will be honored and you can reaffirm your faith by renewing the vows of church membership and become a member of Liberty United Methodist.

TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Simply inform the pastor that you wish to “move your membership to Liberty United Methodist.”  The pastor will get in touch with your former church and request a letter of transfer.  It is not necessary for you to do anything else.  The pastor and membership secretary will handle all the details of transfer for you.

TRANSFER FROM ANOTHER CHRISTIAN DENOMINATION

Since you are already baptized and confirmed, these steps will NOT be repeated.  You will be asked to take the one vow taken by all members of the Untied Methodist Church; “Will you be loyal to the United Methodist Church and uphold it by your prayers, presence, gifts, and service?”

HOW TO “JOIN” WITHOUT “JOINING”

If you are a United Methodist and will be temporarily residing here (for example:  you live in Florida but spend your summers here in Casey County) and your membership is in another city or state and you wish to retain membership in your “home” church, you can become an AFFILIATE MEMBER of Liberty United Methodist Church. Affiliate Members have all the rights, privileges, benefits and responsibilities (such as serving on committees and as coordinators in the local church) with the exception of serving as a member of the Administrative Board (the policy making body in each congregation of The United Methodist Church).

We will contact your “home” church informing them of your Affiliate Member status at Liberty United Methodist Church.

Member of other Christian denominations may chose to become ASSOCIATE MEMBERS under the same conditions.
